Restoring Pride in Culture:
The Henry Street Project
TRANSART has been a cultural institution “without walls”, but that is about to change. We are in the midst of a capital project to restore the historic Burger-Matthews House in Kingston, NY. With the support of a NYS OPRHP Grant, a Community Development Block Grant from the City of Kingston, a grant from the Tides Foundation and a generous anonymous donation we have stabilized the structure and anticipate restoration completion in 2021.
Our grand “re-opening” will mark the creation of the region’s first institution dedicated to the exploration and celebration of the 400 year history of African Americans in the Hudson Valley - a home to historical exhibits and archives, flexible gallery space for classic and contemporary works of art and TRANSART administrative offices.
